We’ve been searching for a classic Dong Ding oolong for years. We’re picky about the teas we offer since they have to meet our high standards. We’re surrounded by tea and only want to offer you what we like to drink ourselves. This year our wish came true and we found a nice Dong Ding that meets our standards.
Dong Ding is one of Taiwan's most classic teas but in recent years the production has been changing due to industry standards that favor greener oolongs. The handmade artisan production of this kind of tea is a dying art. We hope that by promoting this kind of tea we can help keep it alive. We support creating a market that will inspire younger tea makers to go through the extra work of making these traditional teas. This is a very difficult proposition as its not only hard to sell since the market prefers greener teas, but also much more labor intensive. It would be a shame if this kind of traditional tea was lost forever.
This is an excellent traditional style medium roast Taiwanese Dong Ding. Medium roasted teas tend toward more nutty flavors. This tea is a good example of that. This tea has a deep and rich flavor with notes of nutmeg. This tea has a robust mouthfeel.
This kind of tea is hard to find. There are a few good reasons for this. One is that, the current market favors light oxidation teas. Another is that the roasting calls for a labor intensive extra step. Roasting a tea also requires more time. For these reasons genuine Dong Ding Oolong is rare.
